Happy New Year and here’s looking at 2014 which brings me to posting about my favorite topic COLOR or course! If you have not heard that this year’s color of the year is Radiant Orchid, I’m happy to see this creative, original royal color is making its mark this year. Did you know purple was the color of the first dye made by man. It was called “Mauveine” and was made out of coal tar. The recipe was discovered by William Henry Perkin in 1856.
The color Radiant Orchid just seems so majestic and dignified. When designing with it in your interiors don’t be afraid of this jewel tones mystic. Depending on how it’s used it can have a multitude of effects that can leave you feeling calm, uplifted, creative and spiritual .
When we take an in-depth look at this beautiful color its easy to see why it was selected. First off its found in nature and mother nature is a master artist so why not take a few lessons. When you use this color with neutrals such as sandy shades, grays, and soft textures the color is allowed to be the star and takes center stage. Your able to take notice of all its glory, magic and it holds its own.
However, when combined with its neighboring hues such as orange and yellow-orange tones it looks more happy and fun like it’s at a party because it actually is.
Next, when you play it up on the darker side of its neighboring colors such as navy blues, turquoise and blue greens it can have a more calming, sophisticated, and meditative affective.
Lastly, but not certainly not least when you play this color with its complete opposite and we know how that works out in relationships. Well, most of the time, but in color theory it works ALL the time so stick with me. They are a motivating force that is sure to brighten your day and make you feel powerful with creative thoughts.
I hope that you will give this color a chance in your home this year even if it’s flower arrangement that takes center stage in your family room. But it your feeling bold and want to go for it this year then I say try this color out for your formal dining room, guest bath room or home office. Trust me you won’t be disappointed!
Happy 2014 Everyone, Cheers.
