Valentines is Friday, February 14, and it got me to thinking what makes a bedroom romantic or sexy? So, I asked my hubby and friends then posted on my Facebook page and posed the question what colors do you find most romantic? I found that most people were drawn to neutrals such as grays, whites, tans, and the close second was the blue to purple tones such as lavenders, plums, and any shade of sultry blue.
Not many people were drawn to the flirty pinks, hot orchids or saucy corals. I feel these shades are too hot trough and possibly only good for one thing and in moderation. More on this later. Blues, purples, and grays have much staying power for a bedroom because they tend to provide a more calming, moody seductive atmosphere and when you’re trying to achieve this for bedroom these are my thoughts for color suggestions for your master retreat.
Now that color has been established let’s talk about a design portion that is as easy as flipping a switch. This is a major component and needs to be addressed in layers! For the bedside table invest in a lamp that has 3 settings in order to allow you set the mood for just the right about of light. Another layer would be to consider candles in soft vanilla or sensual amber to invoke the scenes even further. When it comes to candles scents, stick with warm and soft smells nothing to floral and overpowering. Candles provide a dim soft light that is perfect for setting the mood.
Want to have some fun with more lighting? Try changing out your bedside table lamp with a red bulb for the ultimate in drama and sexy effects! Did you now the red light is best to hide all your cellulite and blemishes? So, if you are looking to put on a little show and are feeling self-conscious about how you will look in than lacy number you bought then use a red light bulb or break out your Christmas lights and go for it! Trust me you will look HOT!!!
Next, is that thread count and fabric content do matter. Your sheets should be made of high quality materials like Egyptian cotton and have a soft hand. They should be made of natural fibers in order for you to breathe in them. Let’s face it satin sheets seem like the way to for Valentin’s night but, sweating and being hot just by lying in bed is not.
While I’m on this topic of dressing the bed you should keep it simple, clean and comfortable. Point blank and the period! No, need to have the fussy breaded duvet, and fur throw and your bed overstuffed with 8 or more decorative pillows. Your bed should be inviting calming, and restful with all of this in mind this makes for a sexiest bed.
Continuing on about the bed, it should be the focus of the room always! There are several options for a bed such as platform, canopy, four post bed, sleigh style all are very good choice. However, the one I find most sexy would be a tall upholstered style or one that has a unique feature with cured lines. This allows full and easy access in and around the bed. In addition, it’s also a soft place to lean back and enjoy whatever it that you’re doing.
Lastly, the added details such as fresh flowers in a collection of vintage glass or mercury votive tea lights make for the extra touch of sparkle in the room. Have a dish of your favorite candy coated sweets for a late night snack along with a bottle of sparkling champagne or a vintage red wine. Don’t forget about the music. Get a soundtrack together of your favorite love ballads or soothing jazz instrumental’s so you and your loved one can have an intimate conversation. Remember, men are visual beings so be sure to wear something to catch his attention while women are more likely to be putty in the hands of a man who makes her laugh at a funny joke or melt into him by the kind words that are spoken in her ear.
Happy Valentin’s Day everyone may it be memorable and romantic!
